Mimi Onouha

What are the social relationships and power dynamics behind data collection? This question is at the center of Nigerian-American artist and researcher Mimi Ọnụọha’s work. She has been in residence at Eyebeam Center for Art & Technology, Studio XX, Data & Society Research Institute, Columbia University, and the Royal College of Art. Ọnụọha held exhibitions and speaking opportunities in venues like La Gaitê Lyrique, FIBER Festival and Le Centre Pompidou, her writing has appeared in publications such as Quartz, Nichons-nous Dans L'Internet, and FiveThirtyEight. She was part of the inaugural class of Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellows and was nominated as a Technical.ly Brooklyn Artist of the Year in 2017. Ọnụọha’s uses print, code, installation, and video to highlight the tensions at the heart of the "Information Age" and the ways they are differently abstracted, represented, and missed by sociotechnical systems.
